RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The escalating issue of soil saline-alkalization poses a growing global challenge. Leymus chinensis is a perennial grass species commonly used in the establishment and renewal of artificial grasslands that is relatively tolerant of saline, alkaline, and drought conditions. Nonetheless, reduced seed setting rates limit its propagation, especially on alkali-degraded grassland. Inter-annual variations have an important effect on seed yield and germination under abiotic stress, and we therefore examined the effect of planting year on seed yield components of L. chinensis. METHODS: We grew transplanted L. chinensis seedlings in pots for two (Y2), three (Y3), or four (Y4) years and collected spikes for measurement of seed yield components, including spike length, seed setting rate, grain number per spike, and thousand seed weight. We then collected seeds produced by plants from different planting years and subjected them to alkaline stress (25 mM Na2CO3) for measurement of germination percentage and seedling growth. RESULTS: The seed setting rate of L. chinensis decreased with an increasing number of years in pot cultivation, but seed weight increased. Y2 plants had a higher seed setting rate and more grains per spike, whereas Y4 plants had a higher thousand seed weight. The effects of alkaline stress (25 mM Na2CO3) on seed germination were less pronounced for the heavier seeds produced by Y4 plants. Na2CO3 caused a 9.2% reduction in shoot length for seedlings derived from Y4 seeds but a 22.3% increase in shoot length for seedlings derived from Y3 seeds. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings demonstrate significant differences in seed yield components among three planting years of L. chinensis under pot cultivation in a finite space. Inter-annual variation in seed set may provide advantages to plants. Increased alkalinity tolerance of seed germination was observed for seeds produced in successive planting years.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Biopolymer-based microgels are being regarded increasingly as promising building blocks in food applications. This study aimed to clarify the evolution process of the network for fat analogue emulsions stabilized by peanut protein isolate (PPI) microgel particles. It also investigated the interfacial structure and characteristics of emulsions (50% oil phase, w/w) stabilized by microgels under different pH conditions. RESULTS: There was an increasing interfacial adsorption capacity for PPI microgels over time (from 85.26% to the maximum of 89.78% at 24 h of storage) due to the aggregation of microgels around droplets and the development of cross-linking microgel chains between adjacent interfaces. The increased ß-sheet content (from 35.51% to 41.12%) of adsorbed microgels indicated unfolding and the enhanced aggregation of microgels, which led to stronger droplet interaction. The network evolution observed with different microscopes clarified the transition to a self-supporting emulsion. The uneven adsorption of large microgel aggregates at the oil-water interface promoted larger and deformed droplets, so more fat-like medium internal phase emulsion stabilized by PPI microgel could be obtained by adjusting the microgel pH to 4.5. The interfacial membranes observed by scanning electron microscopy were thicker and coarser at pH 3.0 and 4.5 than those at pH 7.0 and 9.0. The adsorption of PPI microgel aggregates enhanced the structural strength and improved emulsion stability. CONCLUSION: This work could form a basis for further studies relating physical properties to the design of plant protein-based fat analogues. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

IMPORTANCE: Parasitoid wasp populations have developed persistent beneficial symbiotic relationships with several viruses through repeated evolution. However, there have been limited reports on RNA viruses in parasitoid wasps of tephritid flies, a significant pest group affecting fruits and vegetables. This study explores the diversity of RNA viruses in three parasitoid wasps of tephritid flies and highlights the potential biological significance of specific viruses in Diachasmimorpha longicaudata. These findings have important implications for the development of sustainable pest management strategies and the enhancement of artificial rearing techniques for parasitoid wasps.

RESUMO

Salinity is a pressing and widespread abiotic stress, adversely affecting agriculture productivity and plant growth worldwide. Seed germination is the most critical stage to seedling growth and establishing plant species in harsh environments, including saline stress. However, seed germination characteristics and stress tolerance may vary among geographical locations, such as various provenances. Suaeda salsa (Linn.) Pall. (S. salsa) is a halophytic plant that exhibits high salt tolerance and is often considered a pioneer species for the restoration of grasslands. Understanding the germination characteristics and stress tolerance of the species could be helpful in the vegetation restoration of saline-alkali land. In this study, we collected S. salsa seeds from seven different saline-alkali habitats (S1-S7) in the Songnen Plain region to assess the germination and seedling growth responses to NaCl, Na2CO3, and NaHCO3, and to observe the recovery of seed germination after relieving the salt stress. We observed significant differences in germination and seedling growth under three salt stresses and among seven provenances. Resistance to Na2CO3 and NaHCO3 stress was considerably higher during seedling growth than seed germination, while the opposite responses were observed for NaCl resistance. Seeds from S1 and S7 showed the highest tolerance to all three salt stress treatments, while S6 exhibited the lowest tolerance. Seeds from S2 exhibited low germination under control conditions, while low NaCl concentration and pretreatment improved germination. Ungerminated seeds under high salt concentrations germinated after relieving the salt stress. Germination of ungerminated seeds after the abatement of salt stress is an important adaptation strategy for black S. salsa seeds. While seeds from most provenances regerminated under NaCl, under Na2CO3 and NaHCO3, only seeds from S4 and S7 regerminated. These findings highlight the importance of soil salinity in the maternal environment for successful seed germination and seedling growth under various salinity-alkali stresses. Therefore, seed sources and provenance should be considered for vegetation restoration.

RESUMO

Enormous viral populations have been identified in activated sludge systems, but their ecological and biochemical roles in landfill leachate treatment plants remain poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted an in-depth analysis using 36 metagenomic datasets that we collected and sequenced during a half-year time-series sampling campaign at six sites in a full-scale landfill leachate treatment plant (LLTP), elucidating viral distribution, virus‒host dynamics, virus-encoded auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs), and viral contributions to the spread of virulence and antibiotic resistance genes. Our findings demonstrated that viral and prokaryotic communities differed widely among different treatment units, with stability over time. LLTP viruses were linked to various prokaryotic hosts, spanning 35 bacterial phyla and one archaeal phylum, which included the core microbes involved in biological treatments, as well as some of the less well-characterized microbial dark matter phyla. By encoding 2364 auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs), viruses harbored the potential to regulate microbial nucleotide metabolism, facilitate the biodegradation of complex organic matter, and enhance flocculation and settling in biological treatment plants. The abundance distribution of AMGs varied considerably across treatment units and showed a lifestyle-dependent pattern with temperate virus-associated AMGs exhibiting a higher average abundance in downstream biological treatment units and effluent water. Meanwhile, temperate viruses tended to carry a higher load of virulence factor genes (VFGs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and biotic and metal resistance genes (BMRGs), and engaged in more frequent gene exchanges with prokaryotes than lytic viruses, thus acting as a pivotal contributor to the dissemination of pathogenicity and resistance genes in downstream LLTP units. This study provided a comprehensive profile of viral and prokaryotic communities in the LLTP and unveiled the varying roles of different-lifestyle viruses in biochemical processes and water quality safety.

RESUMO

Object: The purpose of this study was to describe the longitudinal dynamic hemoglobin trajectories in patients undergoing cardiac surgery and to explore whether they provide a broader perspective in predicting AKI compared to traditional threshold values. Additionally, the interaction of red blood cell transfusion was also investigated. Methods: The MIMIC-IV database was searched to identify patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. Group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) was used to determine the hemoglobin trajectories in the first 72 h after ICU admission. The correlation between hemoglobin trajectories and AKI was evaluated using multivariable logistic regression and inverse probability of treatment weighting. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were created in the dataset to further validate previously reported thresholds. Results: A total of 4,478 eligible patients were included in this study. Three hemoglobin trajectories were identified by GBTM, which were significantly different in the initial hemoglobin level and evolution pattern. Compared to the "the lowest, rising, and then declining" trajectory, patients in the "the highest, declining" and "medium, declining" trajectory groups had significantly lower AKI risk (OR 0.56; 95% CI 0.48, 0.67) and (OR 0.70; 95% CI 0.55, 0.90), respectively. ROC analysis yielded a disappointing result, with an AUC of 0.552, sensitivity of 0.25, and specificity of 0.86 when the hemoglobin threshold was set at 8 g/dl in the entire cohort. In the subgroup analysis of red blood cell transfusion, hemoglobin levels above 10 g/dl predicted higher AKI risk, and there was no correlation between hemoglobin trajectories and AKI in the non-red blood cell transfusion subgroup. Conclusion: This study identified a hemoglobin trajectory that is associated with an increased risk of AKI after cardiac surgery. It is noteworthy that fixed hemoglobin thresholds should not be applied to all patient types. In patients receiving red blood cell transfusion, maintaining hemoglobin levels above 10 g/dl through transfusion was associated with an increased risk of AKI.

RESUMO

Background: The main purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between depression literacy (D-Lit) and the development and progression of depressive mood. Methods: This longitudinal study with multiple cross-sectional analyses used data from a nationwide online questionnaire administered via the Wen Juan Xing survey platform. Eligible participants were 18 years or older and had subjectively experienced mild depressive moods at the time of their initial enrollment in the study. The follow-up time was 3 months. Spearman's rank correlation test was used to analyze the predictive role of D-Lit on the later development of depressive mood. Results: We included 488 individuals with mild depressive moods. No statistically significant correlation between D-Lit and Zung Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) at baseline was observed (adjusted rho = 0.001, p = 0.974). However, after 1 month (adjusted rho = -0.449, p < 0.001) and after 3 months (adjusted rho = -0.759, p < 0.001), D-Lit was significantly and negatively correlated with SDS. Limitations: The targeted subjects were limited to the Chinese adult social media users; meanwhile, China's current management policies for COVID-19 differ from most of the other countries, limiting the generalizability of this study. Conclusion: Despite the limitations, our study provided novel evidence supporting that low depression literacy may be associated with exacerbated development and progression of depressive mood, which, if not appropriately and promptly controlled, may ultimately lead to depression. In the future, we encourage further research to explore the practical and efficient ways to enhance public depression literacy.

RESUMO

Many people with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) report varying degrees of memory impairment. Neuroimaging techniques such as MRI and PET have been utilized to shed light on how COVID-19 affects brain function in humans, including memory dysfunction. In this PRISMA-based systematic review, we compared and summarized the current literature looking at the relationship between COVID-19-induced neuropathological changes by neuroimaging scans and memory symptoms experienced by patients who recovered from COVID-19. Overall, this review suggests a correlational trend between structural abnormalities (e.g., cortical atrophy and white matter hyperintensities) or functional abnormalities (e.g., hypometabolism) in a wide range of brain regions (particularly in the frontal, parietal and temporal regions) and memory impairments in COVID-19 survivors, although a causal relationship between them remains elusive in the absence of sufficient caution. Further longitudinal investigations, particularly controlled studies combined with correlational analyses, are needed to provide additional evidence.

RESUMO

Background: Policies dealing with the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic vary across the globe, the different governmental responses then affect the public perception of COVID-19. Many unofficial Chinese media outlets frequently spread misinformation about COVID-19 and exaggerated reports of rare sequelae of Omicron for monetization and attention seeking, leading to panics in the Chinese public. In comparison the attitudes toward Omicron in other countries around the world, especially in North America and Western Europe have shifted to a more relaxed stance. Objective: This article primarily aims to investigate the association between Chinese people's attitudes toward the potential after-effects of Omicron and their anxiety status, as compared to these of people living in North America or Western Europe. Methods: We conducted a questionnaire survey via the Credamo and collected valid data from 500 Chinese (not living in Shanghai), another 500 Chinese (living in Shanghai) and 500 people living in North America or Western Europe in June 2022. Kendall's coefficient of rank correlation tau-sub-b was used to examine this association. Results: The results suggested that subjective attitudes of Chinese participants toward the sequelae of Omicron were positively and significantly associated with their anxiety status [i.e., the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scores] in Shanghai (China) (Tb = 0.44, p < 0.01) and other parts of China outside Shanghai (Tb = 0.37, p < 0.01). However, no such significant correlation was found in North America & Western Europe (Tb = -0.01, p > 0.05). Conclusion: Our findings showed that Chinese participants who were more worried about the after-effects of Omicron had higher levels of anxiety. Although it is true that Long COVID-19 should be a concern, exaggerated media reporting can impact negatively on an individual's mental wellbeing. Only through the dissemination of robust scientific studies, the misinformation and the fears that follow it can be put to rest.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Identifying relationships between craniopharyngiomas (CPs) and contiguous structures, and tumor origin are crucial for treatments. This study attempted to explore the relationships and tumor origin. METHODS: CPs that underwent endoscopic surgeries were enrolled. The interfacial specimens of CPs attaching the hypothalamus, pituitary stalk (PS), pituitary grand (PG), optic chiasma (OC) and brain tissue (BT) were pathologically examined. Boundaries between CPs and these structures were observed during operations. Expression of ß-catenin and stem cell markers were analyzed to explore the tumor origin. Outcomes of patients were assessed. RESULTS: A total of 34 CPs were categorized into two groups based on the locations of finger-like protrusions (FP). Group A comprised 18 CPs with FP only present in the specimens attaching to hypothalamus. The surface of these CPs was fused with hypothalamus under endoscopic videos. However, the specimens attaching to the PS, PG, OC, and BT showed no FP. Clear boundaries was observed between these CPs and these structures. Group B comprised 16 CPs with FP only present in the specimens attaching to PS. The tumor surface was fused with PS. Specimens attaching to the hypothalamus, PG, OC and BT showed no FP. Clear boundary was observed among these CPs with these structures. These results implied CPs only invaded a certain part of hypothalamic-pituitary axis. ß-catenin and stem cells markers mainly distributed in the FP tissues of both groups. Patients in group B achieved better outcomes than group A. CONCLUSIONS: CPs only invade the hypothalamic-pituitary axis with FP and the FP would be the tumor origin.

RESUMO

Microbes often secrete high levels of quorum sensing (QS) autoinducers into the environment to coordinate gene expression and biofilm formation, but risk detection and subsequent predation by bacterivorous predators. With such prominent signaling molecules acting as chemoattractants that diffuse into the environment at alarmingly high concentrations, it is unclear if bacterial cells can mask their chemical trails from predator detection. Here, we describe a microbial-based anti-detection adaptation, termed as "biofilm cloak", where the biofilm prey produced biofilm matrix exopolysaccharides that "locked" and reduced the leaching of autoinducers into the milieu, thereby concealing their trails to the detection by the bacterivorous Caenorhabditis elegans nematode. The exopolysaccharides act as common good for the non-producers to hide their autoinducers from predator detection. Deficiency in chemosensory gene odr-10 in mutant animals abrogated their ability to detect autoinducers and migrate toward their prey in a directed manner, which led to lower population growth rate of animals. Hence, restriction of bacterial communication activities to the confinements of biofilms is a novel approach for predator evasion, which plays a fundamental role in shaping ecological dynamics of microbial communities and predator-prey interactions.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Accurate prediction of topographical correlation between craniopharyngiomas (CPs) and hypothalamus is important for treatment. This study sought to develop a predicting tool based on preoperative-MRI through radiological-surgical-pathological-outcome analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Third ventricle floor (TVF), mammillary bodies and cerebral peduncle were evaluated through preoperative-MRI. An eagle-head-like sign named "eagle sign" was observed. Normal TVF on sagittal-MRI was defined as the baseline. Variants of the sign were analyzed by comparing with the baseline and corresponding correlations of CPs with hypothalamus were verified using intraoperative records, histopathology and outcome evaluation. RESULTS: A total of 146 CPs patients, who undergone endoscopic endonasal procedure were divided into four groups based on the variants of "eagle sign". Group A: 24 patients with the upward sign; group B: 81 with the downward sign; group C: 21 with the anterior TVF upward sign and group D: 20 with the unidentifiable sign. Surgical-pathological analysis showed significant correlations between 95.8% CPs in group A and 95.2% in group C with tumor topography and tumor adherence to the hypothalamus. These CPs had their origins beneath the hypothalamus. In contrast, groups B and D, with hypothalamic origin, showed hypothalamic infiltration by tumor in 97.5% and 95% of cases in groups B and D, respectively. Outcomes of groups A and C were relatively better than groups B and D. Predictive sensitivity and specificity of "eagle sign" were more than 90%. CONCLUSION: "Eagle sign" is an accurate tool for predicting topographic correlations between CPs and hypothalamus with high sensitivity and specificity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: When comparing endoscopic endonasal surgery (EES) and transcranial microsurgery (TCM) for adult and mixed-age population craniopharyngiomas, EES has become an alternative to TCM. To date, studies comparing EES and TCM for pediatric craniopharyngiomas are sparse. In this study, the authors aimed to compare postoperative complications and surgical outcomes between EES and TCM for pediatric craniopharyngiomas. METHODS: The data of pediatric patients with craniopharyngiomas who underwent surgery between February 2009 and June 2021 at a single center were retrospectively reviewed. All included cases were divided into EES and TCM groups according to the treatment modality received. The baseline characteristics of patients were compared between the groups, as well as surgical results, perioperative complications, and long-term outcomes. To control for confounding factors, propensity-adjusted analysis was performed. RESULTS: Overall, 51 pediatric craniopharyngioma surgeries were identified in 49 patients, among which 35 were treated with EES and 16 were treated with TCM. The proportion of gross-total resection (GTR) was similar between the groups (94.3% for EES vs 75% for TCM, p = 0.130). TCM was associated with a lower rate of hypogonadism (33.3% vs 64.7%, p = 0.042) and a higher rate of growth hormone deficiency (73.3% vs 26.5%, p = 0.002), permanent diabetes insipidus (DI) (60.0% vs 29.4%, p = 0.043), and panhypopituitarism (80.0% vs 47.1%, p = 0.032) at the last follow-up. CSF leakage only occurred in the EES group, with no significant difference observed between the groups (p > 0.99). TCM significantly increased the risk of worsened visual outcomes (25.0% vs 0.0%, p = 0.012). However, TCM was associated with a significantly longer median duration of follow-up (66.0 vs 40.5 months, p = 0.007) and a significantly lower rate of preoperative hypogonadism (18.8% vs 60.0%, p = 0.006). The propensity-adjusted analysis revealed no difference in the rate of recurrence, hypogonadism, or permanent DI. Additionally, EES was associated with a lower median gain in BMI (1.5 kg/m2 vs 7.5 kg/m2, p = 0.046) and better hypothalamic function (58.3% vs 8.3%, p = 0.027) at the last follow-up. CONCLUSIONS: Compared with TCM, EES was associated with a superior visual outcome, better endocrinological and hypothalamic function, and less BMI gain, but comparable rates of GTR, recurrence, and perioperative complications. These findings have indicated that EES is a safe and effective surgical modality and can be a viable alternative to TCM for pediatric midline craniopharyngiomas.

RESUMO

Oleogels were prepared by the cryogel-templated method from porous cryogels, which were co-structured using hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose and structural enhancers (such as flaxseed gum, κ-carrageenan, carboxymethyl-cellulose, arabic gum, and guar gum). The hardness, network density, pore size, pore volume, and SEM micrographs of cryogels showed that κ-carrageenan and flaxseed gum could keep the integrity of aqueous foams during freeze-drying and endow cryogels with the high hardness and content to hold oils (>98%). Oil absorption curves indicated that flaxseed gum and guar gum-enhanced cryogels provided the fastest oil absorption rate due to bigger pores. The absorption model was fitted well with all experimental data. Physical and mechanical properties of cryogels were positively related to the rheological property and oil bonding capacity of oleogels. κ-carrageenan and flaxseed gum were more suitable as structural enhancers to improve hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose-based cryogels for preparing oleogels to replace plastic fats in foods.

RESUMO

Seed germination in response to fire-related cues has been widely studied in species from fire-prone ecosystems. However, the germination characteristics of species from non-fire-prone ecosystems, such as the saline-alkaline grassland, where fire occasionally occurs accidentally or is used as a management tool, have been less studied. Here, we investigate the effects of different types of fire cues (i.e., heat and smoke water) and their combined effect on the seed germination of 12 species from the saline-alkaline grassland. The results demonstrated that heat shock significantly increased the germination percentage of Suaeda glauca and Kochia scoparia var. sieversiana seeds. Smoke water significantly increased the germination percentage of Setaria viridis and K. scoparia seeds. However, compared with single fire cue treatments, the combined treatment neither promoted nor inhibited seed germination significantly in most species. These results suggest that fire cues can be used as germination enhancement tools for vegetation restoration and biodiversity protection of the saline-alkaline grassland.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Matrix metalloproteinase 14 (MMP14) is a member of the MMP family, which interacts with tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase (TIMPs), and is involved in normal physiological functions such as cell migration, invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, and proliferation, as well as tumor genesis and progression. However, there has been a lack of relevant reports on the effect of MMP14 across cancers. This study aims to explore the correlation between MMP14 and pan-cancer prognosis, immune infiltration, and the effects of pan-cancer gene mismatch repair (MMR), microsatellite instability (MSI), tumor mutational burden (TMB), DNA methylation, and immune checkpoint genes. METHODS: In this study, we used bioinformatics to analyze data from multiple databases, including The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), ONCOMINE, and Kaplan-Meier plotter. We investigated the relationship between the expression of MMP14 in tumors and tumor prognosis, the relationship between MMP14 expression and tumor cell immune infiltration, and the relationship between MMR gene MMR, MSI, TMB, DNA methylation, and immune checkpoint genes. RESULTS: MMP14 expression is highly associated with the prognosis of a variety of cancers and tumor immune invasion and has important effects on pan oncologic MMR, MSI, TMB, DNA methylation, and immune checkpoint genes. CONCLUSION: MMP14 is highly correlated with tumor prognosis and immune invasion and affects the occurrence and progression of many tumors. All of these results fully indicate that MMP14 may be a biomarker for the prognosis, diagnosis, and treatment of many tumors and provide new ideas and direction for subsequent tumor immune research and treatment strategies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Suprasellar pituitary adenomas (PAs) can be located in either extradural or intradural spaces, which impacts surgical strategies and outcomes. This study determined how to distinguish these two different types of PAs and analyzed their corresponding surgical strategies and outcomes. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 389 patients who underwent surgery for PAs with suprasellar extension between 2016 to 2020 at our center. PAs were classified into two main grades according to tumor topography and their relationships to the diaphragm sellae (DS) and DS-attached residual pituitary gland (PG). Grade 1 tumors were located extradurally and further divided into grades 1a and 1b, while grade 2 tumors were located intradurally. RESULTS: Of 389 PAs, 292 (75.1%) were surrounded by a bilayer structure formed by the DS and the residual PG and classified as grade 1a, 63 (16.2%) had lobulated or daughter tumors resulting from the thinning or absence of the residual PG and subsequently rendering the bilayer weaker were classified as Grade 1b, and the remaining 34 (8.7%) PAs that broke through the DS or traversed the diaphragmic opening and encased suprasellar neurovascular structures were classified as Grade 2. We found that the gross total removal of the suprasellar part of grade 1a, 1b, and 2 PAs decreased with grading (88.4%, 71.4%, and 61.8%, respectively). The rate of major operative complications, including cerebrospinal fluid leakage, hemorrhage, and death, increased with grading. CONCLUSIONS: It is essential to identify whether PAs with suprasellar extension are located extradurally or intradurally, which depends on whether the bilayer structure is intact. PAs with an intact bilayer structure were classified as grade 1. These were extradural and usually had good surgical outcomes and lower complications. PAs with no bilayer structure surrounding them were classified as grade 2. These were intradural, connected to the cranial cavity, and had increased surgical complications and a lower rate of gross total removal. Different surgical strategies should be adopted for extradural and intradural PAs.

RESUMO

Adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma (ACP) is considered a benign intracranial tumor, but it can also exhibit aggressive characteristics. Due to its unique location in the suprasellar, which brings it close to important nerves and vascular structures, ACP can often lead to significant neuroendocrine diseases. The current treatments primarily include surgical intervention, radiation therapy or a combination of the two, but these can lead to serious complications and adversely affect the quality of life of patients. Thus, it is important to identify effective and safe alternatives. Recently, studies have focused on the tumor genome, transcriptome and proteome in an attempt to identify potential therapeutic targets for clinical use. However, studies on this region of the CP are limited; thus, the present study focused on this region. The GSE94349 and GSE68015 datasets were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and analyzed. In the in vitro studies, the effect of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)12 inhibitor, MMP408, on cell proliferation and protein expression was assessed. The results demonstrated that MMP408 effectively inhibited cell proliferation and migration of ACP cells, and decreased the expression levels of the related proteins. Thus, MMP12 may be used as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of ACP.
